Thank you for starting a blog. I feel that there really are not any services for disabled vets on campus, especially for PTSD which might be a factor for returning Iraq vets and people who have PTSD for other reasons. I don't know what services the campus could provide? I don't know if enough people would be interested in a veterans support group. I personally have to go to the VA for several things and trying to schedule that around classes is a hassel and I feel that I am not taking care of my medical issues or PTSD as much as I should be.
Jim Orr in the counseling center at WWU is a Vet, trained in postdeployment counseling. I personally met with him and he seems legit.
However, there are two cautions I have for you (or any veteran reading this): there are mixed reviews from previous vets that have visited the counseling center on campus and there is a limit on visits per quarter.
Also, I don't know if you have heard of the "American Veterans and Servicemembers Guide: How to cut through the bureaucracy and get what you need-and are entitled to". It was published by Veterans for America and can be found at http://www.veteransforamerica.org/survival-guide/survival-guide-download-2/.
Great work on the blog, Jana. I am looking forward to reading more!
